Implant Retained Dentures

Enjoy permanent, secure dentures

Beeston dental practice & implant clinic in Nottingham

Loose dentures can leave you feeling frustrated and restricted. Eating might become difficult, and your confidence may be compromised where smiling becomes difficult, perhaps even embarrassing. At Beeston Dental Practice Nottingham, we offer implant-retained dentures, dentures secured by dental implants that allow you, once again, to have a secure, full set of natural-looking teeth. Acts such as smiling and eating become simple once again, restoring your happiness and confidence. Implant-retained dentures in Nottingham are also a great benefit to your oral health. Where teeth are missing, extra strain be placed on the remaining teeth, causing damage to the jawbone. Dental implants remedy this issue by integrating with your jawbone, keeping it strong and healthy while slowing down bone loss.

  • Act like natural teeth, giving you confidence and restoring your quality of life.
  • Accepted by your body as they are made of biocompatible materials.
  • Maintain natural bone and minimise further bone loss.
  • Implant-retained dentures can last a lifetime with proper care and good oral hygiene.
  • Minimally invasive, as your adjacent healthy teeth are untouched, unlike conventional bridges.

This cost-effective solution in Nottingham works by fixing your dentures onto 2 lower-jaw implants and 4 upper-jaw implants. Our treatment in Nottingham, can also be applied to partial dentures. You’ll be able to bite, chew and speak much more naturally – and we’re sure you’ll find yourself smiling far more often with Dentures!

    Your journey

    From consultation to aftercare

At an initial consultation our implant dentist will assess your suitability and advise on a suitable solution personally tailored to you. You’ll have every opportunity to ask questions and, in fact, we welcome this – we believe it to be the best way of ensuring that you are completely comfortable with the procedure. Placement of the implants is quick and relatively pain-free. The next step will be for your dentures to be fitted onto the implants. Finally, we’ll check fit and comfort, and match them to your other teeth if your dentures are partial before advising you on the best aftercare plan.

I am really impressed by the excellent care that I have received.

I have been a patient at Beeston Dental Practice for many years now. I recently decided to have upper and lower implant-retained dentures, which has improved my quality of life significantly. After receiving my new set of dentures, I have experienced greater confidence and satisfaction. I would like to thank Chris and his team for providing me with a new more confident smile.

    Frequently asked questions

Implant retained dentures, Beeston Dental Practice & Implant Clinic

    1. What benefits are specific to implant-retained dentures?

Implant-retained dentures will feel far more natural in your mouth than standard dentures. This is because the implants connect your dentures to your jawbone in much the same way your teeth were once connected to it. You will likely find your implant-supported dentures retentive, stable and easier to eat and speak with. You’ll also notice that food tastes better as your upper teeth will no longer cover the roof of your mouth, and biting and chewing will become much easier.

    2. Can I take implant-retained dentures out to clean them?

Yes. With most implant-retained dentures you take the denture out yourself to clean it and soak it overnight, then simply clip it back onto the implants in the morning. You get the security of implants during the day with the easy cleaning of a removable denture at night. Your dentist will show you exactly how yours come on and off, and it soon becomes second nature.

    3. How many implants do I need to hold my dentures in place?

It depends on your jaw, but as a rough guide we often use around two implants on the lower jaw and about four on the upper, where the bone tends to be softer. The bone you have available decides the final number, which we assess with a scan before recommending anything. As a rule, more implants means more stability, and we’ll balance that against what your bone and budget allow.

    4. Can my existing dentures be converted, or do I need new ones?

In some cases a well-fitting denture can be adapted to clip onto implants, but often it’s better to make a new one designed for the job from the start. We’ll look at what you’re wearing now and give you an honest answer at your consultation rather than assume either way.

    5. Will implant-retained dentures stop the slipping and let me eat properly?

That’s exactly what they’re designed for. Once the denture clips onto the implants, the movement you get with a conventional plate is largely gone, so you can bite and chew far more naturally. Most people find they can eat things they’d long since given up on.

    6. How do I clean implant-retained dentures?

There are two parts to it: cleaning the denture itself, much as you would a normal one, and keeping the implants and gums clean where the attachments sit, usually with a soft toothbrush and interdental brushes. It quickly becomes a simple daily routine, and we’ll show you the best technique for both. Your regular hygiene visits keep everything healthy in the long term.

    7. How is this different from fixed implant teeth?

The main difference is removability. Implant-retained dentures clip onto a small number of implants, and you take them out to clean them, whereas full-mouth restoration fixes your teeth permanently onto more implants, so only your dentist removes them. Implant-retained dentures usually need fewer implants and cost less, while fixed teeth feel closest to natural teeth and stay in all the time. Neither is simply better; it comes down to your priorities and your bone, and we’ll compare both honestly with you.

    8. Is the treatment painful, and how long does it take?

The implants are placed under local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure, and sedation is available if you’d prefer to feel more relaxed. Afterwards, it’s normal to have some tenderness for a few days. The implants then need a few months to fuse with the bone, and you won’t be left without a denture in the meantime, once healing is complete.
