We’ll talk you through the CEREC crowns and veneers fitting process and advise on the best hygiene measures to start at home. It starts with what you’d like to change. At your consultation we look at your teeth, take photos and x-rays, and talk through what’s bothering you, then build a plan around your goals. Depending on what you need, that might involve teeth whitening, veneers or CEREC crowns, and often a combination. If your main concern is crooked or crowded teeth, straightening them with Invisalign is sometimes a healthier route than covering them, and we’ll tell you honestly which approach suits you best.
We take impressions of your teeth and make you custom whitening trays that fit snugly. After a check to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy, we fit the trays and show you how to apply the professional whitening gel, which you then wear at home, usually overnight, over a couple of weeks until you reach the shade you’re happy with. For a single darker tooth, we can also whiten in the practice. Some people notice mild, temporary sensitivity during treatment, and we’ll show you how to manage it.
CEREC is a system that lets us design, mill and fit a ceramic crown or veneer in a single visit, using a digital scan rather than messy impressions and weeks of waiting on a lab. The ceramic is strong and colour-matched to your natural teeth, so the result blends in and, in most cases, you walk out the same day with the finished tooth. It’s a great option for restoring a broken, worn or discoloured tooth.
A crown covers the whole tooth, like a cap, and is used when a tooth is significantly broken down, heavily filled or weak. A veneer is a thin facing bonded to the front surface of the tooth, used mainly to improve appearance where the tooth is otherwise sound. Which one is right depends on how much of the natural tooth needs protecting rather than simply enhancing, and we’ll talk you through the best choice at your consultation.
That depends mostly on your habits. Whitening isn’t permanent, but with good brushing and by going easy on the things that stain, such as coffee, red wine, tea and smoking, results can last a good while. When the shade starts to fade, you simply top up with your existing trays and a fresh course of gel rather than starting over, which keeps maintenance easy and affordable.
Some patients get mild sensitivity to hot or cold during a course of whitening, which is normal and usually settles within a day or two of finishing. Because we assess your teeth first and provide properly fitted trays, we can keep this to a minimum, and there are sensitive-teeth toothpastes and simple adjustments that help if it does crop up. If you already have sensitive teeth, let us know and we’ll take that into account.
No. Whitening only lightens natural tooth, so any existing crowns, veneers, bonding or white fillings will stay the shade they are now. This matters for planning. If you’re considering whitening as well as a new crown or veneer, it’s usually best to whiten first and then match the new work to your brighter shade. We’ll sequence your treatment so everything ends up blending together.
