Charity Tandem Bike Ride

The team at Beeston Dental Practice in Nottingham have been moved by the plight of a young dentist living in the village of Sargur. She is currently practicing without a dental chair so she is unable to provide her patients with basic dental care. If a patient is in pain, she is only able to treat the tooth by extraction. If a villager wants to save their teeth, they currently have to travel over 35 miles to the local government hospital in Mysore which the poor cannot afford and are often left untreated.  Providing the dentist with a dental chair would enable her to carry out treatments such as restorations, oral prophylaxis, root canal treatments and to make dentures.

We are looking to raise £2,500 to provide the dentist with a dental chair in aid of the Bangalore Children’s Fund. They are a small registered charity who aims to make a difference to lives in Southern India and to relive poverty.

The Bangalore’s Children Fund have already provided a number of villages with working water wells, water filters for schools and have also erected a wind turbine for the irrigation of crops. They have raised money to build an orphanage to continue to help and support orphans living in Bangalore and also have provided sewing classes to help empower women. They also raised money to build an Ashram in the village of Hedyalli which reaches out to the poor in many different ways.

The team at Beeston Dental Practice decided to raise money by all taking part in a 40k tandem bike ride around Rutland Reservoir in Leicester to help to raise the money. On Wednesday the 12th of October we completed the challenge with the majority of us having no training and even one of us had never even ridden a bike before. It was hard work and we got absolutely drenched as it rained the majority of the day but we completed the route in just fewer than 4 and half hours (including a stop off at the pub of course) on tandem bikes.
