Follow these simple steps to ensure good dental health from the first milk tooth...

Brush teeth with a fluoride toothpaste for two minutes, two times a day.

After brushing, just spit out the toothpaste, don’t rinse it away. The fluoride left around the teeth helps to prevent decay.

We all like a treat, but if these treats are in the form sugary foods or fizzy drinks then it is better for your teeth if you eat or drink these things at meal times instead of snacking on them, as this will increase the number of 'sugar attacks' on your teeth.

Encourage children to drink water, not squash or fizzy pop.

Although fruit juice and fruit smoothies contain vitamins and minerals, they also contain sugar and are very acidic and therefore, unfortunately, are bad for your teeth! Again they are best consumed at mealtimes and through a straw.

Visit your dentist regularly - even prior to milk teeth breakout, take your young children with you when you visit, get them used to the dentist as soon as possible.

Beeston Dental Practice is the home of Flossy, a captivating little creature who is helping kids to get to know more about dental health. Flossy is a great way of generating better dental awareness among our patients and beyond into our community.

We will be holding regular Kid's club sessions where dentists and nurses will host a group of children and teach oral hygiene and caries prevention (in a fun way) to members of the kid's club (i.e our patients).

The membersip pack is nearly ready! a cleaning Chart, Colouring Pages, Club Sticker, and lots more goodies to help you look after your teeth and have fun at the same time.

We also want to roll the kids club out into the community with school visits , nursery visits and perhaps work with GP practices, local chemists etc spreading a preventative message. If you'd like to arrange a session or join in then please contact us.

Would your school be interested in hosting such a session delivered by us devoted to oral hygiene and tooth decay prevention? Does the curriculum involve such a topic and if so perhaps we could help you with it?
